I loves me a bad boy and author, Jay Crownover, gave me bad, good, sexy, sweet, loyal, tattooed and hung like a horse goodness all in one book. I enjoyed Rule and Rowdy of the Marked Men novels so I knew this was gonna be treat.
Shane “Bax” Baxter is from the wrong side of the tracks. He’s a thief, probably the best and cars are his specialty. Things go horribly wrong when he goes for an Aston Martin and he lands in jail for 5 years right before his 18th birthday. Bax was set up, he knows it and when he gets out he’s gonna find out why, the who already hurts too bad.
Dovie Pryce is sweet but not so innocent. The love child of a secret affair she was cast aside by the father who denied her and the junkie mother who didn’t want her so growing up rough was all she knew. But circumstances put her in the way of bad boy Bax and she can either roll with him or get rolled over.
This book was so damn good I read it in one day. I know, I know that’s not unusual for me but to say I couldn’t put it down would be an understatement. I mean this book had it all. Strippers, car theft, illegitimate kids, murder for hire, sex, underground fights, kidnapping the works! Every page turn something else unfolded and you were sucked deeper into the black hole that was The Point, the ghetto Bax and Dovie live in. Bax is bad to the bone, he doesn’t try to hide who he is. He is straight up all the time and doesn’t care who likes it especially his cop brother, Titus. Bax needs to find the best friend that set him up and figure out why he did it. However, Bax isn’t the only one looking for him. So is King of The Point, Novak and his thugs and his half-sister Dovie. Bax and Dovie are forced together because of this. She needs to find him to make sure he’s ok, Bax needs to find out why he let him rot in prison for 5 years. So of course all the time they spend together things get a little heated..no scratch that things get HOT. The counter, the bed, the shower oh my! This boy falls hard and doesn’t want to admit it, she falls harder and keeps it to herself so the back and forth between them makes for great chemistry. He is fiercely protective of her and the way he loves is amazingly bad.
“I don’t know how love works, Dovie. I don’t know how to be anything other than this, but I know the only thing that gives me hope is the idea of you and me. I know I’m not the ideal, not the dream guy, but no one will ever fight for you the way I will…
Bax reminds me a little of Travis Maddox. He can’t change who he is but for the right girl he will do whatever it takes to keep her safe and happy. Even if that means sacrificing himself. Damn this book was good 6 out of 5 stars because I didn’t see that twist coming at about 83% Great job Jay Crownover!!
