I’ve dated a musician before and to say they are passionate is an understatement. Everything they do is reflective of their art down to the way they make love. So when I discovered the Stage Dive Series it took me back to crazy fans, flights to NY & FL, studio sessions and long long love-making nights *woo I’m fanning myself*
Play, by Kylie Scott, is book 2 in the Stage Dive series and one I enjoyed more than book 1. The hero in this book is Malcolm “Mal” Ericson, the drummer of the group Stage Dive. Mal is partying hard, drinking excessively and acting more manic than usual. Needing to clean up his act he decides to get a “pretend” girlfriend to show everyone he doesn’t need rehab and that he is just fine.
Anne Rollins is a 23-year-old trapped in a 40-year-old body. She’s been taking care of her little sister and mother since 16, even working extra shifts just to cover his sisters college text books. When her roommate skips out on the rent taking most of the things in the apartment with her Anne is struck with the realization she is going to have to move quickly or be evicted. Her neighbor invites her to a party that night just to forget her problems for a little while where she meets her long time crush and Stage Dive drummer, Mal. She needs her bills paid he needs a fake girlfriend..get where this is going.
Although you can probably predict what is going to happen in the book it didn’t make it any less entertaining. I loved Mal in the first book, he was major comic relief so I was pretty excited to read his story. I mean you gotta love a guy who says:
” Are you thinking rude thoughts about me, Anne?”
“Liar, you’re totally thinking of me with no pants on. That’s just gross, dude. A massive invasion of my privacy. Whatever you’re imagining, it’s bigger. I’m serious. It’s basically a monster. I can not control it. You’re pretty much gonna need a whip and chair to tame it, Anne.” – Mal, Play
“Hello, Anne’s clitoris. It’s me, Malcolm, your lord and master.”
“Oh, god, no.” I covered my face with my hands. “Please don’t.”
“Shh. This is a private conversation.” He brushed hot feverish kisses up and down the lips of my sex. My stomach tensed so hard it hurt. “Look at you all pretty, pink and excited. Don’t worry, I’ll look after you.”
“If you don’t stop talking to my vagina I’m going to kill you.”
This book had me laughing from beginning to end. I can’t even tell you how hard I laughed when Mal and Anne broke the bed. Yeah…broke the damn bed. What is even better is they compliment each other. With her mom-like tendencies she doesn’t put up with Mal’s foolishness but she isn’t a stuck pain in the butt either. Mal isn’t always a playful ass, he is also thoughtful, caring and compassionate and the reason he cleans up his act will make your heart hurt. This book was fun with characters that you can’t help but wanna hang out with. 5 out of 5 stars for this awesome continuation. Put this series on your TBR list.
