Hard Limit, Hacker Series Review

I swear on everything that some of these serial books are getting out of hand. If you are gonna have 5,6,7 books why make us wait YEAR+ for the follow-up book? That really chaps my ass. I hate having to go back and read the last chapter of the last book just to refresh before starting the new book. Boy am I totally off topic, I am supposed to be discussing Meredith Wild’s new addition to the Hacker Series, Hard Limit.

SYNOPSIS: Blake Landon is a man who has everything—wealth, good looks, and the love of Erica Hathaway. The power couple has been through hell and back, and when life has torn them apart, somehow they have always found their way back to each other, more in love and stronger than ever.

Erica has never been more ready to say I do. On the verge of making the ultimate commitment, she uncovers an unsettling chapter of Blake’s history. As she makes peace with her own past and the family who left her behind, she presses Blake to tear down the last walls between them. Determined to know the man he once was, she opens a door to a world beyond her wildest imagination—a world that has her questioning the limits of her own desires.

As danger lurks and dark secrets come to light, will the past destroy their promise of forever?

Review: Just so you know this is book 4 in the Hacker Series(Hard wired, Hard pressed and Hard Lined) and what I thought was the FINAL book in this series but Oh No book 5 will be released some time this Spring/Summer.

I started out loving this series, books 1&2 were Fan-fcking-tastic, but by the end of Book 3 I was ready to call it quits. So much so that I didn’t plan on purchasing Hard Limit unless it went on sale. I’m not “cheap” by a long shot, okay maybe not by that long of a shot, but at $6.99 a pop for a story that was dragging on and not getting any better I straight up refused. However, an AMAZING woman, Terry Duryea, sent me Hard Limit and I’m not sure if I wanna kiss or slap her for getting me hooked on this series to begin with! Probably kiss her cuz I loves me some Terry D.

This book is pretty good and had potential to be GREAT it just needed a little more character development. I love the bad guy, they make the hero/heroine better, they help drive the story, they keep you invested. Ever notice how in Disney movies that the villains have THE BEST songs. Yup it’s true…trust me.

Anyway, Erica and Blake are back on track and they are getting married. Well Sophia, the villain, ain’t having it and girlfriend pulls a rabbit that even I was expecting out of her hat! Then poof, it’s over, no more Sophia drama. WTF!??!! I need more than that, she can NOT just give up that easily! She is supposed to put a kabash on the wedding, or at least stall it until the last book. Where is the DRAMA!! Ugh…I was even more devastated when she didn’t make an appearance before the wedding (spoiler). So now even if she does show up in Book 5, other than a “separation” what kind of havoc can she really set free on our power couple? None.

Then there’s the whole Senator-Father part of the story, I guess it was written in to give Erica her “own” drama but seriously is it really needed? I keep rolling my eyes every time I think about how the dude that raped her turns out to be her long-lost father’s step son..what the hell are the odds of that (another spoiler)? Any way, this guy (Senator/Father) is a ruthless sonofabitch, he has guns for hire and all kinds of stuff going on and you wouldn’t believe who gets shot (not spoiler) but again I hope something comes to light in book 5 or this, too, is another useless plot.

The sex is always hot between Blake and Erica so that isn’t an issue. I would have loved for the story to go into more of Blake’s past with the expose` of the sex club, La Perle, that he used to visit. Especially since the creepy French Owner was hitting on Erica…hard. Then Blake actually used a safe word!! Yes he had a safe-word! There is so much to that and it wasn’t even touched on. Damn Damn Damn!!! This book just felt so incomplete to me, that I can only give it 3 stars. I am still a big fan of Books 1&2 both were 5 star reads, however 3&4 did enough to get me hot but not enough to get me off… tee hee, a little dirty humor for this Freaky Friday the 13th!
