Twisted Bond (Holly Wood Files #1)…Review

This one threw me for a loop ladies and gents. I love a good whodunnit!

51jD-uLlZuL._SX330_BO1,204,203,200_SYNOPSIS: I’m an Italian-Texan woman in a family full of cops. I’m passionate and shoot before I think. You only f*ck with me if you’re stupid…
Photograph cheating spouses. Hand over the evidence. Cash my check.
That was my plan when I returned home to Holly Woods, Texas, and became a private investigator.
Finding the dead body in my dumpster? Yeah… Given the choice, I think I would have opted out of that little discovery, especially since all three of my brothers are cops. And my Italian grandmother is sure the reason I’m single is because of my job.
Of course, my connection to the victim is entirely coincidental. Until I’m hired by her husband to investigate her murder and shoved bang-smack into the path of Detective Drake Nash. My nemesis, a persistent pain in my ass, and one hell of a sexy son of a bitch.
Shame he still holds a grudge from that time I shot him in the foot twelve years ago, or we could have something. In another life.
So now all I have to do is avoid my nonna’s blind dates, try not to blackmail my brothers into giving me confidential police files, and absolutely do not point my gun at Drake Nash. Or kiss him. Or jump his bones.
All while I hunt down the killer.
Sounds totally simple—until a second body proves that sometimes things that start as coincidences don’t always end up that way…

Review: It’s taken me a bit to write this review but this was one I needed a minute to think about because I liked it, well kind of liked it..well parts of it anyway. I wanted to love it but it felt like something was missing.

Noelle, the heroine in this book, I just didn’t completely connect with. As a detective I loved her but outside of when she was working I couldn’t vibe with her. She was constantly disrespectful to her Nonna (grandma), she kept going on and on about how well she handled a gun and she just wasn’t all that likable. She definitely had chemistry with our hero, Drake, but it was like waiting for a firecracker to go off only to find out it was a dud. All the right stuff was there it just didn’t go BOOM!

“Drake Nash is my tornado. He’s roaring through my life, ripping apart my days without care or thought, obliterating any control I think I have and twisting it until I’m so out of control that all I can do is get caught up in his whirlwind” ~ Noelle

Um, seriously? I didn’t get this impression at all.

Drake seemed like he was hot and you could tell he was “into” Noelle, even though she got on his nerves. He was good at his job on the police force and working with Noelle provided good banter. What sucked was not enough back story. On either of their parts. They obviously have history but it’s never really touched on, just glossed over. Another glossed over topic was; why she left her previous job as a homicide detective to open up her PI firm? She keeps mentioning her life before which leads you to think it may have something to do with what’s happening now. Maybe these things will be touched on in later books. No Cliffhanger though!!

The best thing about this book was the mystery. There was a new suspect every time you turned around! Trying to figure out who did what and how they all fit into this puzzle was so much fun. The best part was I couldn’t figure it out immediately. I absolutely LOVED that!! I did figure it out a few pages before our detectives did but the motive I would’ve never guessed. So for all my mystery lovers this is a good one but for my romancers ummmmmm…yeah don’t look for much romance. 3 stars for this start to what promises to be a good detective series!
