The Air He Breathes…Review

41wbYKtWi1L._SX311_BO1,204,203,200_Synopsis: I was warned about Tristan Cole.

“Stay away from him,” people said.
“He’s cruel.”
“He’s cold.”
“He’s damaged.”

It’s easy to judge a man because of his past. To look at Tristan and see a monster.

But I couldn’t do that. I had to accept the wreckage that lived inside of him because it also lived inside of me.

We were both empty.
We were both looking for something else. Something more.
We both wanted to put together the shattered pieces of our yesterdays.

Then perhaps we could finally remember how to breathe.

Review: Wow. I didn’t expect that at all. I stumbled upon this book actually and it is the first time I’ve read this author…and I LOVED IT.

The beginning of the book will rock you to your core. You immediately feel for our hero. I teared up…didn’t quite make it to ugly cry but I man it did touch my heart. Anyway, the story is told in dual POV but focuses more on Elizabeth since we hear her voice more than Tristan’s. I will say that when we do get to read from his POV a little more of this complicated man is exposed and it keeps you turning the pages.

I also loved how their connection wasn’t instant. So many times authors give you what I like to call “insta-love…add chemistry and stir” bull shiitake, that doesn’t always work, ya know?! But I digress…their attraction to each other grew over time as they both tried to heal from tragedy.

” You know that place in between nightmares and dreams? The place where tomorrows never come and yesterdays don’t hurt anymore? The place where your heart beats in sync with mine? The place where time doesn’t exist, and it’s easy to breathe? I want to live there with you.” ~ Tristan

Can you say swoon? Because this is when I fell completely in love with Tristan Cole! Elizabeth is a great counter to Tristan. She is warm, loving, also grieving but in a completely different way which I attribute to her being a mom. Having a little one depending on you to hold it together will keep you stronger than you ever believed you could be. I like her. Now her best friend, Faye, was totally awesome. She was crude and slutacious and I loved her to pieces.

” I am giving you full permission to touch her vagina that night.”

I laughed. ” That’s really kind of you.” “What can I say?” She smirked. “I’m a solid friend.” ~ Tristan and Faye

Again, my kind of girl. There are some plot twists that I SOOOO didn’t see coming and that made this book even better than I thought it would be, however, there is one contradiction that occurs that is keeping me from giving this book 5 stars(I’m giving it 4).

THIS IS A SEMI-SPOILER…AS MUCH AS I HATE TO DO THIS I NEED TO EXPLAIN MY RATING. STOP READING HERE IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!!

Elizabeth describes Tristan as a fighter, someone who loves deep and loves hard. Someone who doesn’t run when things get messy. What?!!??! How is that even possible when you met him he was running from his past? Just about everything he does shows he doesn’t deal well with “messy” well. This irritated me just a bit considering the premise of the book. C’est la vie!! I still enjoyed it immensely. So again 4 stars for this great find!!
