Weekend…Review

So I spent this weekend playing catch up on my reading list. I mean I am so far behind I am reading books that have been on my list for a few years as well as more recently released stuff. Because of the amount of books I read (4) this weekend, this post is gonna be sort of a “run down”

Friday: Mister Moneybags by the ladies to whom I refer to as “The Dynamic Duo” Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward. With that said, even the best superheroes fall short sometimes, and this is the weak link in the Cocky Bastards series. This one isn’t as funny and the bastard isn’t as cocky BUT…it was still a decent read, well the first half of the story is anyway. I loved the dual role that Dex/”Jay” plays in the beginning. This is the fun part like MTV’s Catfish in a book but then my girls take a right when they should’ve gone left at Albuquerque,82061-big yeah this story goes completely haywire and for the life of me I don’t know why. Like I said, the start of the story is great! It’s moving along nicely and if it needed to stretch on a bit I am sure these two could’ve figured out how to do that, however, they take this story from great to weird in the span of a chapter. I literally stopped reading at that point and said, out loud, “please for the love of Amazon One-Click don’t do it PEVI” (my nickname for Penelope and Vi)and what do they do…f*ckin it! Talk about pissed on a Friday night. I drank a whole bottle of wine finishing up this book. I don’t know if it was out of morbid curiosity, loyalty or just my blind faith that they wouldn’t do this to me. Needless to say, I finished it and I’m giving it 3.5 stars. I wanted to give it more but dammit girls cut this sh*t out

Saturday: The Gravity of Us and The Fire Between High & Lo both by Brittany Cherry whom I just adore. She is the cutest little thing. Well, anyway, I knocked these two out since I needed to finish this series. Oh hell I forgot to mention these books are part of the Element Series consisting of Silent Waters, The Air He Breathes, The Fire Between High & Lo and The Gravity of Us.

Both books were good I will start with Gravity. I. Love. This. Book! I love the push and pull between Graham and Lucy. I love their forbidden love, I love how she teaches him to love. I love how he opens her eyes to selfishness. I know that sounds a little weird to say but I am a firm believer in a little selfishness. Giving yourself entirely to others is exhausting and can often time lead to your own misery so Brittany did a helluva job conveying that. This book has it all sibling rivalry, babies, baby daddy/baby mama drama, break-ups, make-ups, and Ollie. I laughed, smiled, cried real tears and did a happy dance all while reading this book. I even wanted to slap a bish!! That is how good this book is. Anytime you can go through a myriad of emotions in one sitting you’ve got a 5 star read on your hands.

Fire, however, was a bit different. I’m still not sure if I enjoyed it, and it wasn’t nearly as good as the others in the series. I am not sure in what order these are written so it is hard to say if this is the first in the series but it reads like it. The writing is a bit off and the drama just seemed so forced. I mean there was not a single page in this book that SOMETHING wasn’t happening. I get it, life can suck major monkey balls, but there has got to be a break in there somewhere. Hell, even the sun shines on a dog’s ass once in a while. Anyway, the characters were okay with the only redeemable one being Kellan, Logan’s brother. Lo was a bastard and Alyssa was too freaking whiny to even try to relate to. Overall this was maybe a 2.75 – 3 stars top. I finished it in a few hours because it wasn’t terribly long.

Co-Wrecker…Review

Totally late with this one considering how much I loves me some Meghan Quinn! The Virgin Romance Novelist will forever be my favorite romantic comedic book. The puff of smoke from her cooter is comedic gold and I laughed until I had tears coming from my eyes and my cheeks hurt.

Now with that said, I am always looking for her books to be just as funny as that one. She’s set the bar so darn high that I tend to be disappointed when I get one that doesn’t measure up. Not to say they are bad, they are just different or not as funny to me. This one, Co-Wecker, fell into the not as funny category.

cowreckercoverBlurb: What do ice cream and Sadie Montgomery have in common? They’re both ice cold, but one taste is never enough.

I wanted to be friends — I would have even settled for her seeing me as anything but a nerd — but there was no getting through. So just like any hard-headed, red-blooded man out there, I made up my mind.

I’d make my coworker fall for me.

I’d like to say it was simple, but like every other epic love story, all it took was one drunken night and a lot of naked courage to get the girl. For a moment, at least.

Love with a coworker is never simple, especially since Sadie’s trying to keep us on the low. Not to mention her persistent ex-boyfriend who won’t leave her alone. But I’ve never been good at giving up, and I don’t plan to start now.

The whole thing is a recipe for a rocky road, but I plan to eat the whole gallon, no matter how bad the brain freeze.

Written in dual POV, I loved reading Andrew. I wouldn’t call him a “hot nerd” maybe a sexy intellectual but nerd, not so much. His obsession with the gym and the fact that he was called…well you’ll see, I won’t tell that part, totally qualifies him as a hot piece of tail. If nerd was what she was going for he was too cool to actually be one. He had his moments but they were more endearing than anything. The Bat chapter had me giggling my @$$ off because I totally felt his pain. With his dirty mouth and witty comments, Andrew is the guy you can’t help but fall in love with and you definitely will

cowrecker

Sadie…not so much. She wasn’t a bad character and I get that she was “damaged” but she annoyed me at times and surprised me at others. Her life was definitely filled with drama but to be so young she felt more like a depressed middle-aged woman that a college sophomore. That and the fact that she and her friends drank like fish, but I guess that’s what you’re supposed to do in college. Anywho, she grew on me as I continued to read but I loved Andrew so much more.

cowrecker.1

This was a pretty quick read and not really a romantic comedy although it had some funny parts. For me, to be a RomCom I should have spent more time laughing and swooning. I would give it a strong 4 if you’re looking to bust a gut laughing this isn’t it but if you want a sweet quick read this will do the trick!
