Sex, not Love…Review

I knocked two books from my TBR list and first up is Vi Keeland’s Sex, not Love.

sexnotloveMy relationship with Hunter Delucia started backwards.

We met at a wedding–him sitting on the groom’s side, me sitting on the bride’s. Stealing glances at each other throughout the night, there was no denying an intense, mutual attraction.

I caught the bouquet; he caught the garter. Hunter held me tightly while we danced and suggested we explore the chemistry sparking between us. His blunt, dirty mouth should’ve turned me off. But for some crazy reason, it had the opposite effect on me.

We ended up back in my hotel room. The next morning, I headed home to New York leaving him behind in California with the wrong number.

I thought about him often, but after my last relationship, I’d sworn off of charming, cocky, gorgeous-as-sin men. A year later, Hunter and I met again at the birth of our friends’ baby. Our attraction hadn’t dulled one bit. After a whirlwind trip, he demanded a real phone number this time. So I left him with my mother’s–she could scare away any man with her talks of babies and marriage–and flew back home.

I’d thought it was funny, until the following week when he rang the bell at Mom’s house for Sunday night dinner. The crazy, gorgeous man had won over my mother and taken an eight-week assignment in my city. He proposed we spend that time screwing each other out of our systems.

Eight weeks of mind-blowing sex with no strings attached? What did I have to lose?

Nothing, I thought.
It’s just sex, not love.
But you know what they say about the best laid plans…

OH MY GOODNESS, I really really liked this book. To be honest I pretty much enjoy most of what Vi Keeland puts out so I am sure this is no surprise to most of you. I know most romance stories follow the same pattern and I am sure most are wondering how good could this really be, but to honest with you it’s the way the story is told that gets us romance lovers all dreamy eyed. The fall is what we love, the angst is what we crave, the sex is what we fantasize about and the HEA is what makes us keep coming back for more. Vi did all of that in this book and I will happily sing her praises.

With that said, this story wasn’t completely new in the sense that it followed the romance trope, however, I loved how it was done. It felt somewhat fresh and this woman’s ability to write banter is amazing. I giggled so much I felt like a school girl while reading this. Hunter is my kinda hero. He talks dirty and can definitely back it up. He had me hooked when he first entered the picture but he solidified himself as BBF material when he plead his case on why being temporary FWB would work for him and Natalia

“When I told you I was going over the pros and cons in my head, I didn’t mean I want your assistance. I was just being honest.”

Fine, but if you’re going over the pros and cons without me, I want to plead my case first.”

My brows raised. “Plead your case?”

“Yep. You might be missing some critical factors that would sway your decision.”

“Oh yeah?” I laughed. “Like what?”

“Well, you should know I’m extremely good at it”

“Every man thinks he’s good at it, Hunter.” He ignored me.

“And I’m well endowed.”

“Tell me a man who pleads his case by saying ‘I have a tiny penis’.”

“I believe sex without going down on a woman is first bad manners.”

I opened my mouth to say something, but nothing came out. One of the women sitting two rows ahead of us turned and leaned up. “If she says no, I’ll give you my number.”

Although most of this story is told by Natalia, we get Hunter’s pov in the form of flashbacks. I like this because it gives us an insight to Hunter that we wouldn’t get if the story was told completely by Natalia, whom I also love. Natalia was given some serious lemons when it came to her love life. To say she made lemonade is an understatement, girlfriend is my hero for real. I would love to say more but I’m going to end it here and just say read the ding-dang book. It will not disappoint you! 4.5 stars for this sexy FWB novel, Vi never disappoints.
