Havoc…Review

So, it’s taken me a few days but I’ve finished Havoc by Debra Anastasia, not because it was bad because it was bad ass, but because I had to stop twice because my husbutt is a whiney baby and needed me.

HavocI named myself. I took the word Animal out of their mouths, wore it like a badge of honor then shoved it down their throats. I’ve fought for what I have. I see you coming, before you even know you want a piece of me. In a city riddled with warring families, I’ll rise up between them. My people, the broken souls I gather will have power by the time I’m done with them.

I protect mine.

Him. My brother, Nix.

Her. The girl that is the only home I’ve ever had. She knows me.

I’m coming at you, Sweetness. Stay ready.

This book is not my typical go-to read but I am glad I read it. The book follows the life of Animal (seriously this is his name) and his friend to lover T. The lives of this unlikely pair make Annie’s Hard Knock Life look like a cake walk. I felt like I was in a gangster crime boss movie the entire time I was reading it. The sex and clubs, money and drugs, pimps and hoes all take a backseat to the love between Animal and T that I didn’t see coming but when it came I was like, WHOA!

Animal is the man and when you get to the sex scenes… Holy-Blownout-Vagina Batman!! I mean the guy is 6’8″ tall with a peen the size of a tree trunk. Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating a bit, but you get my point. I love how protective Animal is of everyone, and although he’s had a very rough life he never lets that be the reason he’s an asshole.

T is so badass that I loved when she was on the page! She is like Uma Thurman from Kill Bill and I found myself super excited when she was kicking ass. She didn’t verbally speak much but the chapters told from her pov were my favorite until the switch. I can’t tell you what exactly that means without ruining the story, but I will say that that is what made me go from 4.5 to 3.5 stars. I felt like “resolution” and HEA came out of nowhere. Like these aren’t my gangsta characters I just spent 80% of the book falling in love with.

So, there you have it, folks. Havoc is a damn good read if you love this type of story. I give it a 4.5 until 80% and a 2.5 for the rest which in my sketchy ass math equates to a 3.5 kick-ass story.

Only You…Review

ONLYYOUBlurb: Nate Pearson is ridiculously handsome and wears the hell out of a suit and tie, but I’ve seen the parade of beautiful women leaving his apartment across the hall—a different one every time—and I want no part of it. When it comes to romance, I’m looking for something real, something that will last: the happily ever after. As a divorce attorney, he loves to tell me there’s no such thing. As a wedding planner, I choose to disagree. We disagree on almost everything, in fact. Everything except James Bond. The only time we really get along is when we’re watching 007 flicks together, and I’ll admit—he has rescued me from a disaster or five. So when one of the baton twirlers from his parade leaves a baby girl at his door with a note that says “I’ll come back for her” and he begs me for help, I can’t turn him down. But it’s a mistake. Because watching him with his daughter, I start to see another side of Nate, a side that has my breath coming faster, my body craving his, my heart longing for him to change his mind about love and tell me there’s a chance for us. I don’t want to be just another girl leaving his apartment in the morning. I want to be the one he asks to stay.

Review: I LOVED IT! I kinda figured I would. I mean come on…a wedding planner and a divorce attorney, I just knew this was gonna be good. To be perfectly honest, it could’ve been a longer book. It should’ve been a longer book. There is a lot of story that could be flushed out but that doesn’t take away from the book. Just know you will want more. More Nate, more Paisley, and more Emme.

It is written in alternating POVs (the H and h) which is something I adore. It also starts out hilariously! Although I can’t blame Emme for what she does, however, the calamity that ensues after makes you fall in love with this cute wedding planner. Now, I started to get mad because of the insta-love but then I remembered that they’ve been neighbors and friends for years, therefore, they get a pass for moving so fast once they started. This book is full of fun, sexy and all the swoony romance we all crave. Emme and Nate make a great couple and I seriously want more.

The Resistance & The Reckoning…Review

Review: Typically I put the blurb and book cover up so you have a kind of idea about what I’m talking about when I start going on about a book, but because I am going to wrap two books up in one review I decided to skip that part. So here’s my quick synopsis of the books…Jack Dalton aka Johnny Outlaw is the frontman for the band The Resistance. He’s the hot rocker lead of this story, tired of groupies he meets a hot businesswoman in a bar who had no idea who he is. Their one-night stand turns into so much more, but can these two survive love in the limelight?

These two books are part of a series about a rock band named The Resistance. There are four band members and I believe books 1&2 are the only books about Dalton and Holliday. So, if you like rocker romance I would say this is probably right up your alley, however, I had to stop at book 2 because I want to smack fire out of the heroine by the time I was on book 2 chapter 2. Ugh! She annoyed me…slap

This series started out strong. I was all in with book one as I enjoyed the back and forth between Dalton and Holli. Him a rock star trying to keep a low profile, she a businesswoman in Vegas for a conference. It was the perfect setup considering she didn’t know who he was and he was looking for someone to like him for him and not his stage persona. Holli was great in book one,  strong, independent and fun. I thought I was going to love her to pieces…boy was I wrong, she turned into a whiney, needy, brat. Look, I am all for love. That all-consuming-I-can’t-get-enough-of-you love, but at some point, the big girl panties need to come out. Holli, however, pulled them out at the wrong time, each time.

Dalton’s the epitome of the tortured rock star. He’s cocky, sexy and loves to errmm…well, y’all know what I mean, but underneath all that was an insecure, gentle soul who struggled. I wish this story was told in dual POV, but instead, it was told mostly in Holli’s with quotes from Dalton starting each chapter. There are one or two chapters that were narrated by Dalton but it really just wasn’t enough of his POV which I believe would’ve really helped a bit.

The drama from book 2 was more my speed because this is Dalton and Holli after 2yrs of marriage. Now, I loves me some baby mama drama and this book was chock full of it! But it was also full of insecure whiney-ass Holli which made it a bit hard to love. However, let me say this, Danny needs his own book. Danny’s not a bandmate he’s Holli’s neighbor and the man. At one point, I wanted him and Holli to hook-up and say screw the rock star but that wasn’t in the cards. And then there’s Sebastian and Ashley, the villains, I also love villains, they made this story more interesting and pushed me to finish it. As a series, I give these two books 3 stars. Book one is 4 stars and book two is 2 stars. I’m not sure if I’ll read the others, probably, just not right now. I need a minute.
