Raincheck…Review

raincheck.2Synopsis: Raincheck ~ a slightly twisted, romantic story.

Ty Benson is tall, dark, delicious – and done with women. As the singer for the iconic rock band Raincheck, Ty is sick of women chasing after him. He’s sworn off relationships, enjoying the simplicity that celibacy brings. Until he meets Liv Madison. She’s completely – and maddeningly – uninterested in him. And it’s seriously turning him on. Stuck together on Raincheck’s Summer Tour, Ty is trying to stay away from her. But it’s getting harder every day.

Liv Madison just wants to work on her Master’s thesis and have some fun this summer. Which is the exact reason she’s tagging along as her best friend Gabe performs on Raincheck’s tour. Ty Benson, however, seems to have other plans for her. As annoying as he is gorgeous, Ty just won’t leave her alone. And it’s affecting her relationship with Gabe – in a completely unexpected way.

Can Ty convince Liv to give him a chance? Or will her friendship with Gabe turn into so much more?

Review: I was excited to get this book because I really like Rockstar romances. Hell, I just love romance. When bad boys become tame puppies because of love, it gives me hope that the Husbutt will somehow become just a romantic as my many many book boyfriends. He’s not a rock star but a girl can dream, but I digress; this book started out well and I devoured the first few pages. However, after about 70 pages in I wanted to pull my hair out. How is it even possible for a woman going for her Ph.D. in psychology to be so clueless? Liv came off more as a college freshman than a graduate student. The amount of miscommunication and LACK OF communication made this book about 100+ pages longer than it needed to be. There is no need for me to go on about Liv…just…No.

Then we have Ty. Whom I start out liking. He and Liv’s first encounter is funny and in all honesty, it sold me on the book. However, as we move along, I find myself wondering why he’s so interested in Liv. Other than her “beauty” I just don’t get it. She does nothing for me. She is ditzy and not in a good way (as if there is a good way to be an idiot) so I’m trying to figure out what she does for him. The times they spend together are quite amusing and romantic, it did keep me somewhat interested, however, I don’t understand how they get to that point. Things go from 0 to 60 with no explanation from the author or the character. I think I may have a guess at an explanation, but that would spoil the book and if my guess is correct, it still isn’t enough to warrant the major life stalking he partakes in. He definitely gets an A+ in stalking ability. It knows no bounds and is creepy AF.

So, there ya have it, folks. This one had potential that, in my opinion, it just didn’t live up to. I can only give this 2-5-stars

The Life Intended…Review

the-life-intended-9781476754178_lgBlurb: After her husband’s sudden death over ten years ago, Kate Waithman never expected to be lucky enough to find another love of her life. But now she’s planning her second walk down the aisle to a perfectly nice man. So why isn’t she more excited?

At first, Kate blames her lack of sleep on stress. But when she starts seeing Patrick, her late husband, in her dreams, she begins to wonder if she’s really ready to move on. Is Patrick trying to tell her something? Attempting to navigate between dreams and reality, Kate must uncover her husband’s hidden message. Her quest leads her to a sign language class and into the New York City foster system, where she finds rewards greater than she could have imagined.

My thoughts: I’m super late with this one guys, but I love finding random good books. This book is about 3-4 years old now and although I am late to the party, I am glad that I made it. I am sure many of you have already read The Life Intended by Kristin Harmel, but if you haven’t, you should. It is exactly what I look for in a romance. It doesn’t have that insta-love, and I know authors only have a few pages to hook you but please don’t try to convince me that after 2 meetings and a hot hook-up that it’s love. A good author can inject passing time into a story to make it feel genuine and Kristen Harmel does just that. Although somewhat predictable, I still found myself so drawn to this story that I laughed, cried and mourned with all of the characters.

The one thing that worried me a bit is the fantasy of it all. I like to fancy myself a realist and I don’t really do ghosts or other-worldly messages but for some reason, it really worked with this story. Now when I say ghosts, I am not talking about Casper but more like the Patrick Swayze let’s make pottery kind. The ones you see in your dreams that feel so real you could’ve sworn they were really there with you. Like I said, I was skeptical of it at first but the more I read the more I found myself wanting the protagonist(did I just say that?? Too many literature classes. I guess I am not out of school mode yet)to stay in her dreams. To have the life intended for her and Patrick. Although, when she was awake I was totally rooting for the new guy! So check out this #TBT if you haven’t already, it is definitely worth the read.

Darker…Review

Hey people!! I am back. School is finally done and I can get back to my regularly scheduled program, and what better way to come back than with Darker from Christian’s POV.

darkershadesLet me say that this was my favorite book from the original series so I was extremely skeptical going in simply because Grey was a big disappointment, in my opinion. Well, let me just say, she did an amazing job with this re-telling. 560 pages of gotdamn! I was so into this book that I didn’t realize it was 3am and I was still reading. I had that same feeling of “just one more chapter” that I had when I was reading the original, so for that, I thank you, Ms. James. I couldn’t wait to get to the Leila chapter. I was so curious about what was going through his mind when he felt the need to bathe her and dress her in Ana’s clothes, because if it was me…I would need a little more than submission to forgive you. I mean seriously he couldn’t start the shower and let her ass get in by herself? Bathing someone is so darn intimate and I don’t give a damn if he felt responsible for breaking her or not MY MAN bet not even think about it!! wish

Wooo…I am back Yy’all. Okay, I just can’t with that scene but I love it so much, but in real life this would not fly Mr. Grey. I also, like the Fifty nutso fan that I am, put the book down, opened my Amazon Video app, and watch the scene from last year’s movie. The book is still better. Every. Damn. Time. So I am giving this reboot 5 awesome stars. I don’t know how much more money this lady is gonna make from this series but I have a feeling she won’t need to write another thing in her life. Kinda like the Twilight lady!
